We’re starting 2026 with something new: a technical blog series where we’ll take a challenge faced by the quantum community, break it down into simple language, and explain the current approaches used to solve it.
To make things a little easier, we’re excited to introduce Pauli, a friendly quantum octopus who’ll be popping up throughout the series to help untangle these complex quantum ideas.

“Distorted Reality” focuses on pulse distortions: unintended changes to the shape, amplitude, or timing of a control pulse between its generation and its arrival at the qubit. When running gates or gate sequences, pulse distortions introduce systematic, coherent mis-rotations that accumulate across operations, leading to low fidelities.
